Is The Step2 Sand Table Worth Buying?
The Step2 Sand Table looks and feels sturdy from the outset. Assembly couldn’t be simpler – just attach the legs and it’s ready to go. Often, the simpler the assembly the more durable the product seems, and it’s no different here. The four legs are stout and don’t wobble, and the table itself holds the weight of the sand without difficulty.
One selling point of this product is its elevated table. This raises it off ground level, bringing it up to about waist height for the average toddler. By lifting the sand up to this height, toddlers are unable to climb into it. This stops them from getting sandy shoes and socks, serving the purpose very well.
Another selling point of the product is its lid, which is supposed to keep the sand dry even when it’s kept outdoors on rainy days. This does work, but only in part. Although the sand remains relatively dry even after heavy rain, there are small holes in the lid at each corner where elastic is fitted to clasp the lid onto the base. Rain is able to enter in small amounts through these holes, leaving the sand a little damp.
The sand may not always remain dry, but it never becomes saturated. Some customers actually report this damp sand as a benefit, making it better for building sand castles and making mud pies. However, if you’re looking to keep the sand totally dry, you’ll need to do some DIY on the lid to keep it totally watertight.
One other benefit of the lid is that it keeps animals out of the sand. Cats are unable to turn the sand table into a litter box, meaning that you don’t have to worry about your child digging up unwanted nasties like this while they play.
A small negative of this sand table is that the sand isn’t that deep, but it’s still adequate for toddlers to play with. Other than that, there is nothing bad to say about the Step2 Sand Table. It’s a great product, and includes some digging toys. The lid also has a race track cast into it, meaning it can serve multiple purposes! It’s easy to recommend this product, so if you’re looking for a decent sand play area, look no further than this.
(Note that sand is not included with this product. When looking for sand, here’s a tip: be sure to buy silica-free play-grade sand. Step2 Naturally Playful Sand Table is better for your child than other alternatives.)
